The legislation of Nicaragua classifies residences based on time and the purpose of the visit.
Based on the time, there are 2 classifications: Temporary and permanent.
Depending on the purpose of the visit to Nicaragua, the temporary residence permit has 11 sub-categories: 1) Scientists, professionals, technicians and specialized personnel; 2) Entrepreneurs, directors, managers and administrative or operational personnel of national or foreign companies, Business Agents; 3) Journalists; 4) Students; 5) Religious; 6) Independent or dependent workers; 7) Artists; 8) Athletes; 9) Refugees; 10) Stateless and 11) Asylees.
Regarding permanent residence permit, it has 8 sub-categories: 1) Immigrant; 2) investor; 3) retired resident or rentier resident; 4) Spouse, children and parents of the persons mentioned in the previous paragraphs; 5) Foreigners with relationships of consanguinity or affinity with Nicaraguans, understanding as such the spouse, parents and minor children; 6) Refugees; 7) Temporary residents with more than three years of legal stay in the country, may apply for permanent residence and 8) Foreigners of Central American origin and those with whom Nicaragua has signed dual agreements may directly opt for permanent residence. nationality, as long as the principle of reciprocity is applied.
2. What are the requirements to obtain residency in Nicaragua?
There are general requirements that apply to any sub-category of residency, such as: Birth certificate, health certificate,criminal record, marriage certificate (if applicable), Certificate of Naturalization (if applicable). Each sub-category of residence has its own special requirements with which the motive or reason for which it is intended to reside in the country must be demonstrated.
3. What is the application process for residency in Nicaragua?
